West Wales Intermediate Cup – Round 2
Trostre 0 – Hakin United 2
An excellent all-round display earned Hakin United a thoroughly deserved victory against ten-man Trostre at the Penygaer Playing Fields.
Both teams met recently in the FAW Trophy which the Vikings comfortably won 4-0 on the road, and on this occasion, they grabbed a goal in each half which were scored by man of the match Jack Britton and Justin Harding to secure their passage into round three.
Scott Davies’ Vikings were without the services of key front men Nicky Woodrow, Ashley Bevan (attending World Cup) and Adam John (cup tied), but to their full credit the players who came in adapted really well in the wet and windy conditions.
The Vikings’ back four consisting of Jake Merry, Camron Thomas, Jay Power and Garin Gardner were rock solid, also keeper Sam Franklin who will be happy he kept a clean sheet.
The visitors opened the scoring in the 32nd minute as Leon Luby’s wicked cross from the right was met by Britton who made no mistake from 8 yards.
After the break, the Vikings continued to put the Carmarthenshire Premier League team under pressure and were rewarded in the 54th minute as Britton passed to Harding, and the latter superbly lobbed Trostre keeper Rhys Maides from 25 yards out.
The Vikings were unlucky not to grab a third as Britton rattled the crossbar with a vicious strike, but to their credit they remained firm to pick up another famous cup victory.
The hosts finished the game with ten men as Jack James received a red card in the 87th minute by referee Richard Morgan.
Next Saturday, December 3rd, Hakin United continue their cup run as they entertain Cilfrew Rovers from the Neath Premier Division in the third round at the Obs.
