Hakin manager Scott Davies was proud of his players performance despite suffering cup defeat in north Wales

FAW Amateur Trophy

Rhos Aelwyd 3 -  Hakin United 1

Hakin United suffered cup heartbreak in north Wales as they crashed out of the FAW Trophy at the expense of Rhos Aelwyd who have reached the quarter finals.

The Vikings camp will feel bitterly disappointed with the final outcome as they created plenty of scoring chances, but on the afternoon failed to make them count, as keeper Daniel Roberts pulled off a number of brilliant saves to deny the visitors.

The hosts who are situated near Wrexham play in the Ardal North East League led 1-0 at the break thanks to Dafydd Williams who found the back of the net.

After the interval Mark Jones levelled matters for the visitors, but two quick-fire goals by Thomas Smith and Ryan Jones settled this affair.

The hosts opened the scoring early in the eighth minute when Williams pounced from inside the box to stun the visitors.

Nicky Woodrow and Adam John had sights at goal plus the visitors had plenty of territory and possession.

In the 64th minute Jones equalised as he got on the end of a neat Woodrow back header flick-on to finish from close range.

However, it was the hosts who grabbed two quick goals, in the 74th minute a quick counter led to Smith who broke away coolly slotted past Franklin, just four minutes later a low drilled effort by striker Jones flew into the net via Franklin, then there was no way back for the gallant Vikings.

Shortly after the final whistle Hakin United manager Scott Davies sportingly Tweeted: “Wasn’t to be today, congratulations to Rhos Aelwyd and good luck in the next round.

“Super proud of the performance from the boys, they played outstanding in periods. Thanks to all the supporters who made the trip.”
