Haverfordwest Walking Football Club are offering a warm welcome to current and potential new members at their next ‘Beach Festival’ night on Friday (July 28th).
Kick-off is set for 6:30pm on Broad Haven Beach, with the free wash facilities available to all and sundry prior to the post-match social gathering at which players and their families are welcomed.
The Haverfordwest Walking Football Club has grown in the last six months to now have over forty playing members, and chairman Paul Williams is encouraging all over 50 year olds (and ladies over 40) to get involved.
“First and foremost, it is great camaraderie where everyone improves not only their physical fitness but also their wellbeing,” said Paul. “We are part of the Wales Walking Football Association and abide by the rules in place, primarily of course not running and the emphasis is on the skill aspect as there can be no physical contact and no tackling from behind.”
Lots of chances to play
The Club meets every Wednesday at the Sports Village, based at Haverfordwest High School between 6 & 7pm. “We are currently using the outdoor 4G,” Williams enlightened, “but we will be returning inside to the sports hall from the first week in October, where we have two pitches. All abilities are embraced, from those who want to move around and enjoy the game, to those who wish to be part of the national league teams the club puts out at Over 50 and Over 60.”
Open invitation from chairman Paul
Anyone interested in playing walking football can follow and contact the Club on Facebook or by emailing haverfordwestwalkingfootball@gmail.com, Williams, with his customary wry grin, chuckled, “or even just walk up on a Wednesday night.
“Better still, I look forward to meeting you at Broad Haven Beach on July 28th for a game and a post- match pint.”
