Daniel Jeffries and Liam Cullen scored the goals that helped Wales defeat France
Kilgetty’s talented young football star in the making, Liam Cullen, confirmed his outstanding promise in the game as he was on the scoresheet for Wales under 16s last week in their 2-1 victory over France.
The game, held at Dragon Park, Newport, formed part of Wales’ build up to the Autumn Sky Victory Shield and Liam played really well as he utilised the experience gained the previous season as the youngest in the 2013/14 squad..
Calvin Tshilumba had given the French the lead just before half time, but with 30 minutes remaining Cullen, who has played cricket for Kilgetty in the recent season before he moved from Kilgetty to join the Swansea City FC ranks, including being educated in the area, hammered an equaliser into the top corner after his first shot was saved.
His new Swansea team mate, Daniel Jeffries, then headed home the winner seven minutes later to give Wales an excellent start to what is hopefully another great season for the boys in red.
Wales play England in the Victory Shield on October 31 and Liam will be hoping to grab more goals, as he did in this match and in last year’s Victory Shield match against England where he grabbed a spectacular finish when his volley flew into the top corner of the English net.
