Beat the Expert - Week 3 : fixtures for 16th March 2013

The 'Stats Man' drew with The Expert and is a point behind going into final week

The 'Stats Man' drew with The Expert 3-3 and is trailing 12-11 going into the final week of predictions. Two games were postponed in the top flight that our resident Mr Grumpy tipster was not happy with. "If that man Phillips fell in a bucket of S*** he would come up smelling of roses. The weather played into his hands but and there is no way he is going to beat me now!

The 'Stats Man' falls a point behind

Micky PhillipsIn a weekend of crazy first division results The Expert managed to snatch a single-point lead over 'Stats man' Micky Phillips and hasn't stopped crowing about it ever since!

“It might only be a point,” said our resident 'Mr Grumpy, “but this minor set-back will be blown up out of all proportion because I know how much beating me means to a genuine bloke like Micky Phillips.
“Sometimes that can back-fire and I'm confident that he will be poring over those league statistics for hours whilst me – I just look at the fixtures and a scoreline comes into my head for each one, as simple as that.
â€œI'm tempted to tell him but I'll let him carry on and get all tangled up in pages of statistics – and he'll learn sometime that all that counts is the result on the day.”

“I was disappointed with the way things went on Saturday,” admitted the 'Stats Man,' but perhaps it is all for the good because if he gets over-confident I'll swoop in and open up a gap, like I did last season.”

“As for his wondering about what I did with my winning tee-shirt it is enough for him to know that I'll have a pair of them in a fortnight – and they will be in the same place!”

Remember the format – there is one point for a correct forecast and a bonus point for getting the scoreline correct!”

Stats Man 's Forecasts:

Division One:

Hundleton 2 - St Ishmaels 1
The two sides are yet to play each other this year and this is a must win for the home team. However St Ishmaels have travelled well this year and have won at Monkton and Pennar. Although Hundleton are winless in seven games I can see them pinching this and keeping their hopes of avoiding relegation alive.

Monkton Swifts 2 - Narberth 3
Both sides recorded good wins last week and Narberth are on an eight match unbeaten run. When the sides met back in January Narberth won 2-0 and I can see them completing the double with an away win.

Neyland 1 - Johnston 3
Johnston have beaten their opponents twice this year, 2-0 in the Senior Cup and 3-2 in the league. Despite their defeat last week I can see them bouncing back and recording a hat-trick of wins over their opponents.

Pennar Robins 1 - Hakin United 3
The two beaten Senior cup semi- finalists clash at Bush Camp and although the homesters have little to play for, the Vikings, who have a tough run in with five of their last seven games against teams in the top five, will be keen to win this to retain their unbeaten league record and take a step closer to winning the league silverware.

Solva 1 - Goodwick United 4
Games are running out for Solva and they need some more points to creep closer to safety. However Goodwick have won nine of their last eleven league games and I can see them extending their record in this one.

Tenby 3 - Merlins Bridge 2
Tenby's fine run continued with an excellent point at Hakin last week whilst the Bridge are on their worst run for five years with only one win in their last five games. As a result I'll go for a narrow home win.
