Beat the Expert - Week 2 : fixtures for 9th March 2013

The Expert takes a narrow lead over the 'Stats Man'

The Expert beat the 'Stats Man' 4-3 in a low scoring clash. The Expert for the second week in a row predicted a correct score, and that result where Saundersfoot Sports  defeated Pennar Robins 3-1 has given him a slender edge. "We are coming to the end of the season and there can be some strange results," said The Expert. "I'm not counting my chickens before they hatch, but the 'Stats Man' will have his work cut out if he thinks he will beat me this time!"

The 'Stats Man' holds on for a draw

Micky PhillipsThis weekend sees The Expert and Micky Phillips, the 'Stats Man' go head to head again having drawn five points apiece last Saturday, a result that seemed to convince our resident Mr Grumpy that he was somehow on top.

“I know how many hours he spent in the loo last week, poring over past results,” said The Expert, “but going back four years is madness and I know that time will catch up on him soon, especially since he keeps banging on about how busy he is in work!

But I respect Michael for the sporting gentleman he is so I'll let him carry on and get all tangled up on pages of statistics.”

“I admit that I'm a big stats man,” countered our jovial jouster Mr Phillips, “but I see it as a strength, rather than a weakness. Is The Expert afraid I'm going to beat him two years on the trot?”

The Expert countered:

“My mole in Chez Phillips tells me that he was like a scalded cat until the results appeared on PembrokeshireSport.co.uk on Saturday evening so I do feel a little pity, especially since I know I can take the pressure far better than he can.

“I see he still hasn't said what he did with his winner's tee shirt which I generously paid for last season. Whenever I feel a bit sorry for him I remind myself of that – and so he's got no chance!”

Remember the format – there is one point for a correct forecast and a bonus point for getting the scoreline correct!”

The Stat Man's Forecasts:

Division One:

Goodwick United 1 - Johnston 1
With both sides having superb results last Saturday in the West Wales cup I expect this to be a very tough encounter and with the teams having drawn two of their last three encounters I'm going to have to sit on the fence and go for a draw.

Hakin United 4 - Tenby 2
Tenby continued their impressive run with another win last week but a trip to Hakin is never easy and I expect the Vikings to complete a league double with another home win.

Merlins Bridge 3 - Monkton Swifts 1
The Swifts recorded a 6-2 victory at Monkton Lane this season but when the sides met on the Racecourse last season a 4-1 home victory secured the Bridge the championship. They are unlikely to retain their title this year and nothing less than a win will keep their hopes alive of finishing runners-up. As a result I'll go for a home win.

Neyland 3 - Hundleton 2
Recent matches between these two sides have been very tight with three of the last four games being decided by the odd goal, with the other ending in a 0-0 draw. I can see another close encounter with Neyland pinching it once again by the odd goal.

Saundersfoot Sports 3 - Pennar Robins 2
The result of this game may hinge on Pennar's result against Johnston in the cup semi- final on Thursday; a win and their season is still alive whilst a defeat leaves them little left to play for. Pennar won the first fixture 4-2 but two games in three days may prove crucial and I expect the Sports to get something out of this.

St Ishmaels 1 - Narberth 2
St Ishmaels home form has been surprisingly poor this year, having only won once in eight home league fixtures. Narberth won the reverse fixture back in September 2-1 and I'll predict a similar score-line this time around.
