Beat the Expert - Week 2 : fixtures for 12th January 2013
Expert takes narrow lead over Tansey
The Expert narrowly beat Chris Tansey 6-5 this week to take an overall 10-9 advantage going into week three of their four week dual.
West Dragons won 3-1 at Hundleton that the Expert correctly predicted and that result gave him a slender edge over the Manderwood director.
"He's in trouble now," taunted The Expert. "I'm not going to give up my advantage easy so be better watch out. Mr Tansey is out of touch with local football. He said that Matthew Price's goals would ease the West Dragons to cup success. He was right about the result but Pricey is cup-tied so could not play. Never mind better luck next time. Not!"
Tansey's still in there fighting!
Chris Tansey showed that he might have what it takes to beat The Expert as he battled to a four-all draw in the first of their four week's football forecasting challenge
The Expert was quietly impressed but showed his self-belief is still alive and kicking when he told us:
“Mr T's had a decent start but I was so close to nudging into the lead. I just missed out on estimating the exact score a few times and he might not be so lucky this week.â€
“I know he's been chatting to all his staff at Manderwood's but they've shown before how useless they can be – especially that one from Neyland and the one who thinks he's a good goal-grabber.
“He's also been in touch with that flower-power feller Picton, who used to be his right-hand man at Hakin, but came away more confused than ever. But it's all in vain because he won't have the staying power for a four-week stint!â€
Chris Tansey was equally as up-beat when he sent in his forecasts, saying,
“I have heard a rumour going around local footballing circles that the Expert has finally shot his bolt but we'll see about that. If he wants to throw in the forecasting for Sunderland over the next two weeks then that would be great because, as he clearly knows, they are the team that I have always supported since I was a nipper. I can't wait for Saturday now, it will be even better than shopping in M & S with Mrs T!â€

Remember the format – there is one point for a correct forecast and a bonus point for getting the scoreline correct!â€

Tansey's Forecasts:
Division One:
Goodwick United 3 - Merlins Bridge 2
This is very hard, with Bernie Armstrong taking his new Bridge team back to Phoenix Park and his former players eager to give him a warm reception. The Bridge will start as slight favourites but I have to go for Goodwick!Neyland 3 - St Ishmaels 2
There could be plenty of goals in this match but I think Neyland will edge home by the odd goal.Saundersfoot Sports 4 - Solva 1
The form book says that Saundersfoot are likely to win but getting the margin right is perhaps the hard part!
Senior Cup Quarter Finals:
Hakin United 3 - Narberth 1
Narberth are a useful side but I have to for my old team at The Obs. I saw them play against Pennar and if they can repeat their second half form they will take some stopping!
Hundleton 1 - West Dragons 2
The quarter finals often throw up a surprise result and this could be the one, despite first division Hundleton having home advantage over division two leaders West Dragons. Matthew Price will be eager to score for the Dragons and I expect him to be on the scoresheet in an away win.
Johnston 2 - Monkton Swifts 1
Another almost impossible call to make but I have decided not to sit on the fence this month so I go for the Tigers to claw their way through and bring the Swifts tumbling back to earth!
Lawrenny 1 - Pennar Robins 4
Division three outfit Lawrenny start as rank outsiders and although the Robins lost heavily last Saturday I think they should prove far too strong for the village side.
