Beat the Expert - Week 1 : fixtures for 5th January 2013

Tansey is level pegging with The Expert

After the first week of predictions Chris Tansey will feel as proud as punch as he drew 4-4 with The Expert. Only five matches were compeleted in Division One, as the St Ishmaels versus Tenby was postponed. The pair got all their predictions right except for Narberth gaining a surprise 2-0 win at home against Monkton Swifts.
"I think Mr Tansey has been doing his homework," suggested The Expert. "Not only has he got his work colleagues helping him I've been told from a good source that he's been phoning Daisy Picton. I think we should be predicting who Sunderland will beat in the Premiership every week. Then that would put a spanner in the works!"

Can Tansey finally break his duck?

Chris Tansey in 1977Will it be fourth time lucky for Chris Tansey as he tries to beat The Expert after two solo defeats and another occasion when he joined forces with his staff at Manderwood's and they still floundered to defeat?
After successive defeats to Matthew 'Priceless' Price and David Albert Isaac Samuel Yosser Picton our resident 'Mr Grumpy' was surprisingly up-beat when he supplied us with his Scorecasts on Sunday.
“I know I've had a bit of a blip but I'm still the best in the west as far as tipping goes and I shall certainly prove that when and if I decide to invite 'Priceless' and 'Daisy' back next season.
“In the meanwhile I'll resharpen my teeth on Tansey, who is a decent bloke and the most successful manager ever in local football when he was boss of Hakin United. But he was a bit slow on the turn when he played for The Vikings and I'll have him back-pedalling over the next four weeks.
“We did offer him some second division matches as well but he declined, saying he didn't know much about that section because all his footballing experience was at the top level. From his previous tipping here that doesn't stack up but he can't say he hasn't had his chance. He has put on a bit of weight since he stepped down so I have ordered an extra-large 'I lost to The Expert' tee-shirt in readiness – and this time he had better wear it!”

Remember the format – there is one point for a correct forecast and a bonus point for getting the scoreline correct!”

Tansey's Forecasts:

Division One:

Hakin United 3 - Pennar Robins 1
I have to go for my old team, especially at The Obs, against a Pennar Robins' team which should be higher than 10th place but have games in hand. Hakin are able to score goals from a variety of situations so I go for a win by at least two goals.

Hundleton 1 - Goodwick United 2
This is quite a tough match to predict as both sides need points, with Hundleton already in the relegation zone and Goodwick in a very low position considering their pedigree. I was going to predict a draw but The Expert would accuse me of sitting on the fence – so I'll go for a narrow win for Goodwick.

Johnston 3 - Neyland 1
This should be another close result as the teams are respectively seventh and sixth in the table – but the Tigers have proven goal-grabbers so I pick them to win with a little in hand.

Merlins Bridge 2 - Saundersfoot Sports 1
The Hakin boys told me that Saundersfoot were the best team they had come up against this season and the Bridge have a little off the boil recently but could well be lifted by the arrival of my old pal Bernie Armstrong. So I'll go for a Wizards' win on the 'Bernie Bounce-Back' Theme

Narberth 1 - Monkton Swifts 2
This is another case of a manger coming in and lifting sagging spirits, in this case with old war-horse Benno Jones returning to the Swifts and helping them into second spot. Narberth are a useful side but I believe 'Benno's Boys' will pick up the three points after a real challenge from the Bluebirds!

St Ishmaels 3 - Tenby 2
Both teams are likely to be in the relegation struggle close to the end of the season but there could be plenty of goals before Tish win by the odd goal!
