Bluebirds' shop gets a great refit
Match-day visitors to the shop at Haverfordwest County will notice an attractive outlet instead of the tired old shed that was previously tucked away in the corner at the Conygar Bridge Meadow Stadium.
There is no significant change to the shell of the club shop but inside there is now an attractive ambience that comes as the direct result of some real industry on behalf of two long-time male supporters and the obligatory lady who supplied the ideas and kept the fellers noses to the grindstone.
Alan and Ernie show their skills . . .
Alan Adams originally hails from Bristol and is an unashamed supporter of Bristol Rovers (and laughingly says that the word 'City' is a swear word as far as he is concerned! Trained as a carpenter, Alan certainly has the expertise.
In contrast, Ernie Tucker is a 'Long Neck' through and through, and has been a Bluebirds' supporter for as long as he can remember, as well as being a tough old geezer in his playing days. Formally with the Gas Board, Ernie now spends some of his spare time in doing a lot of work around the ground – and it is rumoured that if you stand still too long on a mid-week visit to the Conygar Bridge Meadow Stadium then you risk being painted by our Ernie!
. . . Under Heather's watchful eye
But definitely the leading light in a busy trio is Heather Scammell, a former teacher whose son Peter used to the play in goal for the Bluebirds before attending Glamorgan University and playing at Nearby Pontypridd in the Welsh League. Heather admits that she didn't attempt the physical work with saw, screwdriver and chisel but her women's hands on the design aspect are very evident in the new wall cupboards (borrowed from Ernie's old kitchen!), smart wooden counter, solid wooden floor and a fresh coat of paint that makes everything look so fresh and clean.
It will do nicely for John
Also using the shop as his base on match days in his role as announcer is John Hughes, who has done a wonderful job on the microphone for many years, as well as helping to prepare the programmes for home games.
“It will do nicely for me,†said John, with typical under-statement – and we at PembrokeshireSport.co.uk can only echo the same sentiment and say 'well done' to Heather, Alan and Ernie because it will do nicely for us, and other Bluebirds' supporters, too!
