Beat the Expert - Week 1 : fixtures for 2nd March 2013

'Stat Man' and The Expert quick at the draw

Both men had to settle for a draw in the first round of predictions that finished 5-5. Both also got a correct score, so this clash is going to prove interesting over the next three weeks. "He got lucky this week, but over the course I think he'll crack under the pressure," taunted The Expert. "I know he his good with figures, but his only worry is that he'll never figure me out!"

The 'Stat Man' is seeking a win double over the Expert

Micky PhillipsThis weekend sees The Expert take on a really tough test of his tipping skills as he seeks to gain revenge on Micky Phillips, the sporting all-rounder from Haverfordwest, who won their battle last season and was the first recipient of an 'I Beat the Expert' tee-shirt.

“He spent hours each week studying stats last time he took me on,” said our resident Mr Grumpy “but it was just a few lucky score predictions that saw him through and my mole in the 'Stat Man's' house tells me that he has been at it again, sitting on the loo, writing down all sorts of things with his Parker pen.”

“What winds me up most is the fact that told me he was going to have the tee-shirt, which costs me a few bob, framed and put in the lounge, but he has seen by my scouts using it to do gardening chores at his posh house in Haven Drive. Now that has got me good and mad!”

“I am really looking forward to the challenge,” admitted the ever-popular Mr Phillips, “and I think that looking back at other matches is bound to give me a bit of a start, despite the fact that The Expert seems to have a natural flair for picking winners.”

“It's no good him trying to be nice to me,” growled our angry tipster, “if he thinks I am a soft touch he'll learn differently over the next four weeks. Just bring the battle on!”

Remember the format – there is one point for a correct forecast and a bonus point for getting the scoreline correct!”

Stat Man 's Forecasts:

West Wales Cup Quarter Finals:

Johnston 2 - Maltsters Sports 0

Maltsters Sports sit top of the third division in the Swansea league and are currently unbeaten so will prove tough opposition for the Tigers.
However I watched Johnston maul Kilvey Fords in the last round and they must start favourites to reach the semis.

Seaside 4 - Goodwick United 1

I watched Seaside beat Hakin in the last round and they are an excellent team. Goodwick recorded a great win in the last round though I think this could be a bridge too far for Goodwick.

Hundleton 0 - Hakin United 5

On current form you've got to fancy Hakin here for a comfortable away win and I'll go for a repeat score of when the two sides last met.

Division One :

Merlins Bridge 4 - Neyland 0

After a good start to the season Neyland have failed to win in the league for 11 games and as a result I expect the Bridge to get over last week's defeat and record a comfortable win.

Narberth 2 - Saundersfoot Sports 0

The homesters still have a chance of finishing runners up and with Saundersfoot faltering after a good start in the league, with four defeats in the last six games, I'll go for another home win.

St Ishmaels 3 - Pennar Robins 2

Probably the most difficult game to predict but Pennar may have one eye on their cup semi final against Johnston next Thursday and with both sides relatively safe in the league I can see Tish pinching this one.

Tenby 3 - Solva 0

Solva need the points and recorded one of their three wins this season when the teams met earlier in the season. However a win for Tenby would see them ease any relegation worries and based on current form, Tenby suffering only one league defeat in their last seven outings, I'll again go for a home win.
